OK, so we all love chicken because it tastes delicious grilled(NOT FRIED!) and it is a great source of PROTEIN. But lets be real with ourselves, we do get bored with it. And if most of you are like me then you are probably looking for ways to liven up that menu of yours at home while still getting a healthy and satisfying meal.

Well as I was sitting in my room one early morning and I decided to look up different type of foods that 1. taste good 2. are super healthy (good fat/high protein) and 3. can be served in a variety of ways.

Now, I already know that YOU already know that you should be eating protein after every workout and with every meal, but if you’re not a fan of protein shakes like most (myself included) you’ve probably been trying to figure out a way to liven up that menu of yours.

After searching high and low I found a couple articles from Joel Marion(a top expert in the field of fat loss and nutrition) and he laid it out plain in simple.

So here are a bunch of options to add some variety in to your weekly meal plan (in no particular order).

1. Eggs – Eat the whole egg, not just the white. The yolk is actually the most nutrient dense portion of the egg, providing a ton of vitamins and minerals…and it has the benefit of making the egg taste mo’ better.

2. Shrimp – Grill ‘em up, or sautee them in some organic butter or extra virgin olive oil. Mix with veggies and enjoy.

3. Salmon – An awesome fatty fish containing loads of protein and a healthy dose of uber-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.

4. CHOCOLATE MILK(my favorite) or Protein Powder - This is super convenient after a workout (unless you travel with a george foreman grill) and great for those between meal snacks. Look for a brand that contains both slow and fast acting proteins like whey (fast) and casein (slow) for hours of protein feeding your muscles from a single shake. The less ingredients, the BETTER.

5. Ground Turkey – Super lean and great for chili. Mmmmm chili. Make some. Eat some. Enjoy some. Share some at camp ; )

6. Pork – The “other” white meat, just as lean as chicken when you get the right cut. Go for the boneless chops and trim the outer fatty edge.

7. Chicken Sausage – You probably won’t notice the difference between chicken sausage and “regular” pork sausage, but it contains a much more moderate amount of fat…great for those protein and carb meals.

8. Beans – Like black beans, kidney beans, red beans, navy beans, black eyed peas, lentils and the list goes on and on are actually the least exensive protein source in AMERICA (and probably every other part of the world as well). Low glycemic, crazy high in fiber. Add it to your turkey chili, or any other meal you want for that matter.

9. Bison – All the taste of beef while being incredibly lean. Great for protein and carb meals when you’re wanting to limit the fat content of a meal while still packing a mean flavor punch. KA-BOOM!

10. Grass-fed Beef – Grass fed beef is rich in CLA, a special fat that has actually been shown to result in fat LOSS. Eat this shizzle…tastes great, great for your figure.

11. Greek Yogurt. BONUS!! I love bonuses, don’t you? Of course you do…everyone loves bonuses. Greek yogurt packs twice the protein of regular yogurt. Go with the plain variety and sweeten with a packet of stevia or truvia (my favorite non-calorie sweetener) if you’d like.

Hope this helps you in the kitchen and out at camps! Have a great day!

Hey all. There will be no camp for a week at the end of May (May 26- June 1). There are three times a year we take a week off and we do so for several reasons:

1.) We run 4 week camps. Within the context of a year that gives us a few extra weeks left over.

2.) During certain times of the year our camps have consistently shown super low attendance (and this is when we choose to take these extra weeks off). The week of memorial day is one of these slow times due to vacations, graduations, kids out of school, etc.

3.) Lastly, it is actually important to take a week break from intense workout routines every now and then!

5 Reasons To Take A Week Off

Taking a week off the gym or an intense workout routine is actually one of the best ways to get results and can help your body stay stronger and healthier.

Taking a week off can help provide your body with the right rest, and helps repair your body for the next challenge. But taking a week off not just a few days is very important, since only a few days is often not enough for your body to repair.

5 Reasons To Take A Week Off The Gym

1. No Overtraining – Since many people overtrain and do not know the negative effects that come from it, it’s best to know how to stop it from happening. Over training can cause things such as poor performance, depression and staleness. Building a solid time-off period from your workout schedule throughout the year is very important to make sure this isn’t happening.

2. Helps Balance Out Work/Fitness/Personal Life – When you take time off it will help de-stress you from working out, that way you can relax more on your time off for personal life reasons. Work get’s better because you are not rushing through your workouts to make it to work on time, plus when you take time off you get stronger thus helping your fitness goals.

3. Sleep/Stress Reduction – When you take time off it can help balance out mood levels and de-stress your body from intense work. Taking a week off can help your tense muscle relax and recover from the stress of working out hard for example cross training or running.

4. Long-Term Goals - When you take a week off your body gets to recovery all fluids and restore glycogen levels to muscles. When you take a week off it may seem like a long time for those who are fit, but doing so can help restore stressed joints and tendons from intense physical activity.

5. Safer From Injury/Improves Results – When you take a week off you are in less of a chance to get an injury from your training, let alone avoid getting results. But when you take a week or two off you help your joints and tendons stay lubricated and in the best working shape for your next intense routine. Plus when your body gets a week off it is more challenge for your next workouts.

So relax, schedule a massage, enjoy your family, take a road trip, and laugh a lot!!!!

The San Jose Terrain Mud Run was an awesome event that brought our campers together as one to represent. Marching in wearing camouflage shirts, crazy body paint, and florescent tu tu’s, we were a force to be reckoned with!

Although the course was originally marketed as being either a “3 mile or 5 mile” course it somehow morphed into a 4 mile or 7 mile one! Since our boot-camp is not heavily focused on running we were slightly under prepared for what was in store for us… but the campers sucked it up and rocked it, exceeding my expectations on this front. I was not surprised however that our campers killed it on the obstacles though, that’s where our boot-camp training really paid off! We climbed over walls, gracefully glided through the incline monkey bars, crawled through mud, jumped over hay barrels, and shimmied through tunnels like it was a leisurely stroll on the beach. One bad ass group we have!

Personally, I truly enjoyed watching everyone come together to tackle something slightly beyond our comfort zone. Everyone finished, everyone got muddy, and everyone became better friends. Good times.

Kristin Orahood is one of Be Fit all star campers. She gets out there 4-5 times a week (either doing our boot-camps or our small group training Kettle Bell class) and always gives 100% , so there is no wondering why she won Member of the Month in February. Here you can read about her fitness journey with Be Fit Boot Camps:

Why did you join Be Fit Boot Camps?
I wanted to lose some weight. I still was carrying around about 20 extra pounds from when I had my daughter FIVE years ago! My neighbor, Deirdre, and I saw a deal on Groupon and decided to give it a try. We figured it was a little less intimidating going together!

What was your life/health like before joining?

I was a periodic exerciser. I would go a month or so really sticking with a program then fall off the wagon for a few months, then pick it back up again. I could never really stay committed. The extra weight was keeping me from fully enjoying my daughter. A five year old moves really fast! Plus my core was so weak, I had constant back pain and spasms.

What results have you seen since joining?

I joined in October and ate my way through Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, maintaining my weight by going to class 3 times a week. I was also running a few times a week. I mean I was eating anything and everything I wanted, not even trying to watch it. When January rolled around I started the Be Fit eight week challenge and really started to push myself in my workouts, adding an extra bootcamp day and REALLY watching what I was eating. I also started the kettlebell classes in February, which have been fabulous. Since January 1st, I have lost 12 pounds and LOTS of inches~

What aspect of Be Fit Boot Camps do you enjoy the most?

Lots of things..Being outside is awesome. Exercising with a group is great. You get to know your workout partners and we have a lot of fun! Also it is kind of an accountability thing for me too, knowing there are other people showing up pushes me to make it out to every workout I can!

What would you say to anyone thinking of joining Be Fit Boot Camps?

If you are thinking about joining you are more than half way there! Suck it up and just do it! You won’t regret it! There are people there at all different fitness levels and ages. Don’t think you will stand out if you are older or not as physically fit as you think you should be. The instructors and other campers are super supportive!~

Is there anything we do that you could see needs improving? How can be better this program for you?

Right now, there is nothing I see that needs improving. I am really happy with the program, the communication and the instructors!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Just to give my thanks to Be Fit for giving me back my zest for life. My husband says he hasn’t seen me this animated or happy about something in a long time! I have a ways to go but I am on my way!

Well hello there hottie!

I’d like to be the first to welcome you to Be Fit Boot Camps!

We’re excited you “got your groupon” and can’t wait for you to join our camps! But first, lets go over some logistics so that you get the most out of your Be Fit Boot Camp experience.

First things first, you’ll have to register & come out to New Member Orientation.

Q. But What if I can’t make it to NMO?

Sorry, but no exceptions here. Orientation will set the expectation, answer any questions you may have, and get you FIRED UP to take full advantage of our Be Fit Program. (I don’t care if you are the Pope, or Micheal Jordan… if you want to join our camps, then you have to come out to New Member Orientation.)

Q. What do I need to bring to NMO?

All you need to bring is your voucher (printed or on your smart phone), your filled out waiver, and your sweet little self! We are not working out. We’ll be demonstrating modifications and basic exercises that you are welcome to try, but it won’t be a workout. The orientation should take about an hour or less (for the smaller groups, we take care of business in 30-35min). We will be taking measurements (if you want), so it would be helpful if you didn’t wear street clothes, but it’s not that big of a deal… we can make it work!

Q. How do I sign up for NMO?

Use the form below to register for NMO.

Q. When does 1-Month begin?

As soon as you complete NMO, your 1-month period with us will begin. No exceptions! So when signing up for a NMO, make sure you are prepared to start camp starting immediately. (ie… if you have a 3-week vacation planned, you might want to wait to come out to NMO!)

Q. Is there a limit to how many people can register for NMO or how many people you can accept into your camps?

YES! Each NMO is limited to 50 participants depending on which camps you are planning to attend. For the quality of our program to remain high, we have set limits based on each individual camp. When you register for NMO below, you’ll also need to tell us which camp you will be attending. (PLEASE NOTE: If you know you want to attend multiple camps, I will present that option to you during NMO, but for the sake of registration, choose the camp you will most likely be attending)

Q. What if I can’t get into the NMO I want because you reached your cap?

Most Boot Camps only allow new people to come in once a month, but here at Be Fit Boot Camps, we run NMO every-other week, so the worst case scenario would be you’d have to wait a week. We KNOW you are excited to get started, and now you can be assured that when you do, you’ll get a safe and amazing experience since we won’t be over-crowded.

Q. Where are NMO’s located?

Saturday Mornings at Vasona Park (near the boat launch) at 9:30am or Monday evenings at the Campbell Community Center Track (at picnic tables near restrooms) at 7pm You’ll need to choose a date when you register.

Q. How do I sign up for my Body Composition Test?

Q. When does my 8-session time period begin?

As soon as you complete NMO, your 1-month period with us will begin. So when signing up for a NMO, make sure you are prepared to start camp for the following month.

(NOTE: you have access to ALL of our camps with your 8-session punch card, but we still need you to choose the camp you are most likely going to be attending)

Q. What if I can’t get into the NMO I want because you reached your cap?

Most Boot Camps only allow new people to come in once a month, but we run NMO every-other week, so the worst case scenario would be you’d have to wait a week. We KNOW you are excited to get started, and now you can be assured that when you do, you’ll get a safe and amazing experience since we won’t be over-crowded.

Q. Where are NMO’s located?

Saturday Mornings at Vasona Park (near the boat launch) at 10am or Monday evenings at the Campbell Community Center Track (at picnic tables near restrooms) at 6:30pm You’ll need to choose a date when you register.

Q. How do I sign up for my Body Composition Test?

We’ll have a sign up sheet for you at NMO.
